Spiraea japonica

Spiraea japonica is a compact, mound-forming deciduous shrub, usually under a metre or so tall. Flat clusters of tiny pink flowers cover it through summer, and butterflies and bees love them. Many varieties also have gold, lime or bronze-tinted leaves.

It loves sun, grows happily in most reasonable soils and is hardy and trouble-free.
