The everlasting sweet pea (Lathyrus latifolius) is a vigorous perennial climber with winged stems and tendrils. Clusters of bright purple-pink pea flowers cover it through summer, though they have little of the scent of annual sweet peas.
It’s happy in sun or part shade and copes with poorer soils. It dies back in winter and returns each spring.
