Fuchsia microphylla, the small-leaved fuchsia, is a semi-evergreen shrub growing to around 1.2–2m. Tiny pink-red tubular flowers hang among its small leaves from May right through to November, followed by black berries, and the bees love them.
It likes sun or part shade in a sheltered spot, ideally facing south or west, with fertile soil that is moist but well-drained. It isn’t fully hardy, so pots are best kept under cover in winter, and plants in the ground benefit from a mulch and a warm wall.
