Penstemon is a long-flowering perennial with upright stems of tubular pink flowers, a little like small foxgloves. They open from early summer and carry on well into autumn, and the bees love them.
It prefers sun or light shade and soil that drains well. It flowers for longer when deadheaded and dislikes cold, wet ground in winter.
