Buddleja davidii (Butterfly Bush)

Buddleja davidii (Butterfly Bush) is a deciduous shrub with lance-shaped grey-green leaves. From July to October, fragrant lilac-purple flowers with orange eyes attract butterflies, bees and other insects.

It suits a sunny spot, sheltered from strong wind, in well-drained chalk, loam or sand. It needs watering until established, then tolerates dry spells. Deadheading helps to prolong the display and reduce seeding.
